In a bid to reduce governance costs, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has prohibited all political aides from traveling outside the state unless the expenses are privately funded. The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humawashi Wounosikou, confirmed this directive in an exclusive interview on Friday in Yola, explaining that the decision was prompted by the need to safeguard the state’s finances following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Wounosikou highlighted Governor Fintiri’s resource management, noting that his careful approach has enabled the completion of numerous projects across the state’s three senatorial districts. He also mentioned that the governor travels solo on official assignments abroad, without the typical entourage, including his ADC, showcasing his commitment to cost-cutting measures.
“Who else in this country can do that?” Wounosikou asked rhetorically. Despite the praise for the governor’s frugality, it was observed that he recently appointed 25 commissioners, 57 heads of boards and commissions, and 182 special assistants.
In a related discussion, financial consultant Mr. Terkimbi Tyona criticized the growing number of political appointees, stating that it contributes to the rising costs of governance at the expense of the public. Tyona, the CEO of Apex Consultancy in Yola, emphasized that the increase in political appointments is a key factor driving up governance expenses.
