Dr. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State governor, has introduced a natural, ready-to-use baby food named ‘Nonye Healthy Living Pap’ to address child malnutrition in the state.
The launch event was held at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka.
Soludo explained that this initiative, part of the ‘Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative,’ aims to support children with specific nutritional needs and to supplement government efforts in combating malnutrition.
She noted the state’s recent improvements in its nutritional index, crediting this to investments in healthcare and campaigns for exclusive breastfeeding. Soludo shared that the idea for the initiative came from a meeting with UNICEF, which highlighted the malnutrition issues in Anambra, inspiring her to take action.
The ‘Nonye Healthy Living Pap’ is formulated to provide essential nutrients to malnourished children. It is made from groundnut, corn, and soya beans, offering a rich mix of carbohydrates, healthy fats, fiber, protein, zinc, and vitamins B1, B2, B3, and iron.
Soludo stressed the significance of healthy living as a cornerstone for a productive society, aiming to reduce under-five mortality rates in the state through this initiative.
The launch was attended by women and community members from all 21 local government areas, along with leaders from the Yoruba and Hausa communities. Hajia Khadijat Olahan, Women Leader of the Yoruba community and Muslim Women in Anambra, commended the initiative for addressing children’s nutritional needs and enhancing their well-being.
