Asake and I are no longer best friends – Oxlade

Nigerian musicians Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, and Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, better recognized as Oxlade, who were once known as close friends, have recently sparked rumors of a potential estrangement.

Previously, the two artists were inseparable, as evidenced by numerous online videos showcasing their camaraderie. These videos depict them freestyling together and capturing moments of their joyous encounters, such as when they met in Berlin, Germany, unable to contain their excitement as they embraced each other warmly.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Oxlade disclosed that he and Asake used to be close companions “back then,” and recalled how Asake was among the first individuals to provide feedback on one of his songs, which eventually gained international acclaim.

Oxlade said in that interview:

“Back then, myself and Asake used to really roll together. He was like “Yo, the song is going to go crazy. It’s going to go crazy.” I was like, “Ehh, every song, everybody says it’s going to go crazy.”

The statement got many hinging on the fact that the two have become estranged and they weren’t wrong.

Fast forward to a fresh interview with Afrobeats Intelligence, Oxlade finally revealed that he and Asake are in fact no longer best friends.

In Oxlade’s words:

“ Asake used to be my best friend, but…y’know. He’s still my brother o, but…the game is the game.”
