CSO Praises Tinubu’s Bold Appointments Amid Hunger Protests

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria (CCSON) has praised President Bola Tinubu for his courageous new appointments at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, amidst nationwide protests against economic hardship.

In a press statement jointly signed by the Deputy National Chairman, Comrade Auwal Mohammed, and the Spokesperson, Joy Elizabeth, the group responded to the seven appointments made by President Tinubu under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.

The group described the appointments as timely and a clear indication of President Tinubu’s commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by citizens and his determination to lead Nigeria towards progress.

“The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs is a crucial government agency that provides essential livelihood support to all, ultimately delivering the dividends of democracy to every Nigerian. These appointments by President Tinubu are well-timed, considering the widespread agitation due to the government’s economic policies and reforms,” the statement read.

The CCSON emphasized that the Ministry’s effective management could positively impact the broader population, calling the move a positive step from the APC administration led by President Tinubu.

“As a coalition of over 200 Civil Society Groups, representing over 50 million members across Nigeria, we fully support initiatives that give every citizen a sense of belonging. We urge all citizens to support the president in advancing Nigeria,” the statement continued.

The group also urged President Tinubu to consider appointing Hajiya Adenike Tejuosho, CEO of QAT Foundation, as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, citing her outstanding track record in humanitarian interventions during the ongoing protests.

“Adenike has dedicated her resources to supporting the less privileged across Nigeria. Her patriotism was evident when she traveled from Abuja to Jos to negotiate with protesters, successfully ending the demonstrations. Her intervention in Kogi State prevented protests, even among people with disabilities, whom she serves as National Matron. Appointing her to this position would demonstrate the president’s commitment to the welfare of young Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
