During Operational Audit, Dana Air Lays Off Employees

Dana Air has announced the temporary layoff of some of its employees during an operational audit by national regulatory authorities, as stated by Kingsley Ezenwa, the airline’s head of corporate communications, in a recent statement.

The audit is a joint effort between Dana Air and the authorities to adhere to all required standards and regulations. This follows the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)’s immediate suspension of Dana Airlines’ Air Operator Certificate (AOC) last month due to heightened safety concerns. This action came shortly after a Dana Air aircraft, an MD82 with registration marks 5SN-BKI, had a runway incursion after landing in Lagos from Abuja. Fortunately, all 83 passengers and crew were safely evacuated without injuries, with the airline praising the crew’s professionalism and confirming that relevant authorities were informed.

The layoff decision aims to manage resources effectively and review operational procedures thoroughly. Dana Air has expressed gratitude to its staff for their resilience and commitment during this uncertain time, acknowledging the difficulties they have faced. The airline is actively cooperating with the authorities to expedite the audit and has begun discussions with lessors and stakeholders on the progress. Dana Air’s management is also preparing a restart plan for safe and efficient operations and remains optimistic about overcoming these challenges with the support of its staff and stakeholders.
