EFCC to arraign Buhari’s minister, Hadi Sirika for alleged N2.7 billion fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) plans to arraign former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, in front of Justice Sylvanus Oriji at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama this Thursday.

Sirika, who served under former president Muhammadu Buhari, faces a revised six-count charge.

Alongside Sirika, three additional defendants, including his daughter Fatima; Jalal Hamma, and Al-Duraq Investment Ltd, will be charged with office abuse amounting to N2.7 billion.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, EFCC’s inquiry into alleged financial misconduct during Sirika’s tenure included suspect contracts managed by his ministry. Sirika was detained on April 23 in Abuja following these investigations. He was summoned by the Abuja Zonal Command of EFCC over these contract issues, interrogated, and held at the commission’s Formella Street office in Wuse 2.

An anonymous EFCC source stated, “The former minister was called in for questioning regarding the suspected contract frauds during his time in office. He responded to the invitation and is currently detained.”

The arraignment was initially scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed to Thursday after the EFCC requested to amend the charges.
