“External forces blackmailed Tinubu into signing cybersecurity levy policy” – Borno Elders Forum

Elder Statesman and Dean of the Borno Elders Forum, Prof. Khalifa Dikwa, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu was coerced into approving the cybersecurity levy policy initiated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). In an interview on Channels Television, Dikwa suggested that Tinubu faced blackmail and intimidation from significant external forces, leading to his endorsement of the controversial policy.

Dikwa expressed concerns about the timing of the levy, stating, “These forces can’t be seen and rely on intimidation to get their bidding done,” and noted that the Tinubu administration appears to be influenced by external pressures. He emphasized that it was an inopportune moment to introduce such a levy.

The policy has been met with strong disapproval and resistance from various quarters in Nigeria. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticized the cybersecurity levy, labeling it as an additional financial burden on Nigerians. NLC President Joe Ajaero condemned the policy, arguing that it would diminish the disposable income of workers and degrade the purchasing power of the general populace.
