Fatal Accidents Claim Lives in Abia and Sokoto States

Two tragic accidents in Abia and Sokoto States have resulted in multiple fatalities and left several others missing.

In Abia State, a devastating auto crash near the Umuika Junction on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway claimed the lives of at least 10 passengers, including two infants.

According to eyewitnesses, a Toyota Sienna bus, fully loaded with passengers from a local transport company, lost control, collided with a truck, and then veered off the road into a bush. The bus was reportedly speeding at the time of the incident. Sympathizers, along with Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officials, arrived at the scene to assist in transporting the deceased to a morgue.

In a separate incident in Sokoto State, a boat carrying over 40 passengers capsized in the Dundaye River, approximately six kilometers west of Sokoto metropolis in Wamakko Local Government Area.

The tragedy occurred yesterday as passengers, mostly women and children, were crossing the river to reach their farms. An eyewitness, Malam Ayuba Dundaye, reported that the boat sank mid-river. Local divers and swimmers managed to rescue 15 passengers, while 25 others remain unaccounted for. Search and rescue operations are ongoing to locate the missing passengers.
