“Fubara is not the person people think he is, he is not a peacemaker, He wants feud with Wike to continue” – Ex-Rivers commissioner, Adangor

Prof Zacchaeus Adangor, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Rivers State, has expressed his belief that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is not interested in fostering peace and tranquility in the state.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Adangor claimed that Fubara prefers to prolong his conflict with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, and has shown no interest in reconciliation.

“He (Fubara) is not the person people think he is; he is not a peacemaker,” Adangor stated.

Adangor, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, revealed that he resigned from Fubara’s cabinet in April after refusing to comply with the governor’s request to file lawsuits challenging the legality of the Presidential Peace Pact by President Bola Tinubu regarding the dispute between Fubara and Wike.

The former commissioner traced the start of his difficulties with the governor to December 18, 2023, following the Presidential Peace Pact in Abuja. He mentioned that Fubara transferred him from the Justice Ministry to the Ministry of Special Duties without prior consultation, a move Adangor considered punitive and unjustified, leading to his resignation.

Adangor also addressed accusations from Fubara claiming he had sabotaged the administration while serving as attorney general, describing these claims as misleading.

“Politically, I am loyal to Wike, there is no doubt about that. I wouldn’t know whether he (Fubara) was angered by that or not. But as far as I remember, he (Fubara) was angry that I insisted on conducting a matter in accordance with the understanding of the law,” Adangor explained.

He further noted that he had never sought employment under Governor Fubara but was invited to serve. Despite resigning once before on November 14, he returned to the cabinet at the president’s request, only to find that the governor had no real intention of resolving the ongoing feud with Wike.
