Funnybone said I would fade away in 6 months – Comedian DesTalker speaks about how colleagues were jealous of him

Nigerian stand-up comedian Destalker recently shared insights into his journey in the comedy industry during an appearance on the Afrobeats Podcast hosted by Shopsydoo.

During the podcast episode, Destalker revealed that his colleagues were envious of him when he received his first title as “Best Comedian of the Year.” He recounted an incident where fellow comedian FunnyBone expressed skepticism about his longevity in the comedy business, comparing his career trajectory to that of Akpororo, another comedian.

FunnyBone allegedly predicted that Destalker would fade away from the comedy scene within six months, similar to Akpororo’s perceived trajectory. This revelation sheds light on the competitive nature of the comedy industry and the challenges faced by comedians in maintaining relevance and success.

Despite facing skepticism and envy from his peers, Destalker’s achievements in the comedy industry demonstrate his resilience and determination to succeed. His story serves as inspiration for aspiring comedians and highlights the importance of perseverance in pursuing one’s dreams despite obstacles and criticism.

He said, “After I won my first Best Comedian of the Year award, my colleagues started getting jealous of me. FunnyBone said, ‘What does he feel like? Let’s give him 6 months.’ He didn’t know I was sitting close to him when he said it out loud.

“He said, ‘Abeg! Six months he will go down.’ Listen, you cannot give time for what God has timed. FunnyBone continued, ‘Let’s give him time, highest one year. No be so Akpororo do? Where is Akpororo today?’

“I said, ‘Okay, let’s see if it’s God’s time or man’s time.’ I won the same award for four consecutive years.
