Hoodlums Drive Protesters Out of Freedom Park

On Sunday, suspected hoodlums disrupted the ongoing nationwide protest in Lagos State. These individuals reportedly forced the #EndBadGovernance protesters to leave Freedom Park in the Ojota area.

The protesters were prevented from entering the park after some of their leaders withdrew from the public demonstration. This withdrawal came after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national broadcast, in which he called for dialogue.

Despite some protest leaders agreeing to suspend the demonstration on Sunday morning, a few insisted on continuing and went to the park. A protester who spoke with reporters said that hoodlums arrived, brandishing weapons, after the protest leaders had left.

“The hoodlums just came from nowhere after some of our leaders had left. Those area boys were brandishing dangerous weapons, and we all had to run in different directions,” one protester told Daily Trust.

Earlier on Sunday, Tinubu had appealed to Nigerians, who had been protesting since August 1 over the poor state of the nation, to stop the protests and engage in dialogue with the government.
