Kaduna ends dusk-to-dawn curfew

The Kaduna State Security Council has officially lifted the curfew that was previously in effect from 6 pm to 8 am in the metropolitan areas of Kaduna and Zaria, starting Tuesday.

This announcement was made in a statement by Samuel Aruwan, the Acting Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, on Tuesday.

“Following a thorough assessment of the security conditions in Kaduna and Zaria and their surrounding areas, the Kaduna State Security Council, led by Governor Uba Sani, has decided to fully lift the existing curfew from 6 pm to 8 am,” the statement said. “This decision takes immediate effect, beginning today, Tuesday, August 13, 2024.”

Previously, the state security council had relaxed a 24-hour curfew that was imposed after unrest related to the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests.

Aruwan further explained that the lifting of the curfew was based on a detailed evaluation of the security situation in the affected areas. He encouraged law-abiding citizens to return to their daily routines without any time restrictions in both cities.

However, the state government issued a caution regarding public gatherings and processions, advising residents to obtain necessary approvals from relevant authorities to avoid disturbances to public order.

The statement also stressed that security forces would remain on alert and would take swift action against anyone or any group posing a threat to peace.

Governor Sani reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance, assuring that he would continue to work closely with all key stakeholders to maintain peace and unity across Kaduna State.

The statement concluded by noting that the Kaduna State Security Council, after an extensive review, unanimously agreed to lift the curfew and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
