Kaduna Government Imposes Curfew Amid Intensifying Protest

The Kaduna State Security Council has imposed a 24-hour curfew in the metropolitan areas of Kaduna and Zaria.

While normalcy has returned to some parts of Kaduna, thousands of youths remain on the streets, protesting against what they describe as a disastrous administration.

President Bola Tinubu had addressed the nation, urging for calm, but the demonstrators argue that their concerns have not been addressed.

In a statement released on Monday, Samuel Aruwan, the Acting Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, explained that the decision was made to maintain peace. “The Kaduna State Security Council, led by Governor Uba Sani, after reviewing the state’s security situation, informs citizens of the following:

“There is substantial evidence indicating that the ongoing protests have been hijacked by criminal elements who have looted shops and vandalized private and public property.

“Due to these unfortunate events, the Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously decided to impose a 24-hour curfew on the metropolitan areas of Kaduna and Zaria, as well as surrounding regions.

“Citizens are advised to stay indoors as security forces work to restore safety and security. The situation will be continuously monitored, and the curfew will be adjusted as necessary.”
