The Kano State Police Command has apprehended 76 individuals for allegedly displaying Russian flags during the recent #EndBadGovernance protest. These arrests are part of a larger operation in which 600 suspects were detained for various offenses across the state.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Salma Dogo, announced the arrests during a Monday press briefing at the command’s headquarters. The suspects face charges related to criminal conspiracy, incitement, rioting, theft, mischief, and arson.
“Among those arrested, 150 were detained for violating the curfew, and 76 for flying Russian flags, including a foreign tailor,” Dogo stated. “We also recovered two AK-47 rifles and other significant items.”
Dogo further elaborated on the arrest of six individuals connected to the vandalism and looting of the Kano State Printing Press. Additional arrests included two suspected kidnappers, five armed robbery suspects, and eight car theft suspects, with the police recovering a Beretta pistol during the operations.
Despite the difficulties posed by the protest, Dogo underscored the command’s ongoing commitment to crime prevention and public safety in Kano State. The police’s efforts also resulted in the arrest of two suspected kidnappers, five armed robbers, eight car thieves, two human traffickers, 23 local gang members, and a notorious drug dealer, alongside the rescue of 13 trafficking victims.
The police commissioner reiterated the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property in Kano through proactive policing and community collaboration.
