Kidnapped Children of Deceased Katsina University Lecturer Released After 37 Days

The two kidnapped children of the late Dr. Tiri Gyang, a lecturer from the Federal University Dutsinma in Katsina State, have been freed.

The children were held captive for 37 days before their release by the abductors.

Dr. Gyang was killed in June during an attack on his home in Dutsinma by terrorists. During the invasion, the gunmen also kidnapped his two children. Initially, the terrorists demanded a ransom of N20 million for their release, but it remains unclear if this amount was paid.

According to a source, after the ransom payment, the terrorists released the younger son, Caleb, but demanded two motorcycles and N200,000 in mobile recharge cards for the release of the elder son, Derrick, on Sunday.

With the children now free, preparations are underway for Dr. Gyang’s burial.
