Nasarawa Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Swindling Victim Out of N17 Million

The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a 58-year-old man, Shuaibu Isiaka, on charges of allegedly defrauding a victim of N17 million by falsely claiming close connections with the state governor.

Reports indicate that Isiaka misled the victim into believing he could facilitate a government contract through the Nasarawa State Government, prompting the victim to hand over a substantial amount of money.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel. The statement detailed that Isiaka’s arrest followed a petition accusing him of obtaining money under false pretenses.

“Police operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Nasarawa State Police Command have detained Shuaibu Isiaka, also known as Ziko, a 58-year-old resident of Tudun Gwandara, Lafia, for falsely invoking the name of the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State and swindling an unsuspecting individual out of Seventeen Million Naira (#17,000,000),” the statement read.

During interrogation, Isiaka admitted to the offense but claimed that the amount he received from the victim was N14 million, not N17 million as initially reported.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter and has instructed investigators to pursue all individuals connected to the crime, regardless of their position.

CP Nadada also urged the public to remain vigilant and to be cautious of individuals who exploit the names of prominent figures to deceive and defraud others.
