The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that graduates from polytechnics and monotechnics must provide proof of completing a mandatory one-year industrial training before they can be mobilized for national service.
In an interview on Saturday, Lagos NYSC Coordinator, Yetunde Baderinwa, revealed that some graduates have been neglecting this required industrial training. She stated that the NYSC has issued a circular requiring tertiary institutions to verify the completion of industrial training before admitting students into Higher National Diploma (HND) programs.
Baderinwa emphasized, “It has come to our attention that some polytechnic and monotechnic graduates skip the mandatory one-year industrial training before their HND programs. This training is a prerequisite for HND. Graduates must complete the one-year industrial training and provide evidence of it before enrolling in HND programs, and institutions must confirm this before admission.”
She added that the directive will be enforced from the next orientation camp, and any candidate who has not completed the industrial training will not be registered. This measure aims to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.
Ms. Baderinwa also mentioned that prospective corps members with HND qualifications will need to present evidence of their completed industrial training before registration at any NYSC orientation camp.
