Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, has announced that local government area elections in Ogun State will take place on November 16, 2024. This announcement was made in a statement released in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the guidelines for conducting the elections and a stakeholders’ meeting will be released on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Political parties are set to commence their campaigns on Friday, August 9. The statement also mentioned that party primaries will be held from Monday, August 26 to Monday, September 9, 2024.
Last month, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, clarified that a circulating statement on social media claiming the elections would be on October 26, 2024, was fake news. The tenure of the currently elected local government officials ended about a week ago.
