The Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), a civil society organization, has encouraged Nigerians to pursue reforms rather than disruptive protests to address the nation’s current issues.
CSCHEI highlighted the fragility of the nation’s economic stability, warning that prolonged strikes or public protests could lead to social unrest.
Kunle Yusuff, the Director General of CSCHEI, issued a statement advising against actions that could cause social chaos in the present economic climate. He urged leaders of civil society organizations, community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, youths, students, and other key stakeholders to prioritize negotiations and allow the government time to implement their interventions effectively.
CSCHEI also appealed to the federal government to expedite its reform processes, identifying critical areas needing urgent attention such as basic healthcare, agriculture, housing, retirement policies, electricity supply, and energy sufficiency. The organization emphasized that these reforms are essential for Nigerians to reap the benefits of democracy promptly.
To support these efforts, CSCHEI has established a committee for public enlightenment and advocacy against extremism and radicalization. The organization plans to collaborate with at least 20 civil society organizations in each state capital to promote emotional intelligence and manage public sentiments during these challenging times.
Additionally, CSCHEI called on state governors and local government authorities to accurately communicate federal interventions, stressing the importance of proper information dissemination at this crucial time. The organization reminded Nigerians that national development is a collective responsibility and called for patriotism from all levels of leadership, both community and religious.
