RCCG Names New Pastor to Succeed Iluyomade at City of David

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has appointed Kayode Pitan as the new pastor for the City of David Parish in Lagos, succeeding Pastor Idowu Iluyomade. This decision was made by the church’s governing council during the recently concluded RCCG convention, as reported by Church Times.

Pitan’s appointment brings an end to Iluyomade’s tenure at the City of David Parish. The change in leadership follows public criticism over the lavish 60th birthday celebration of Iluyomade’s wife, Siju, which occurred shortly after the unfortunate death of former Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, a prominent church member.

A video from the party, featuring popular Nigerian high-life musician Flavour N’abania performing songs like “Ada Ada,” “Berna,” and “Adamma,” sparked reactions online, with some questioning the timing and the presence of a secular artist at a pastor-hosted event.

In response to the backlash, the RCCG Governing Council suspended Iluyomade for three months in June 2024 and appointed Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish as the interim pastor. Pastor Kayode Pitan will now take over from Pastor Kpandei, who has been leading the parish during the interim period. Before this new appointment, Pitan served as the Pastor in Charge of the Tabernacle of David in Region 51 and held the role of Regional Pastor.
