Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has committed to advocating for fair and equitable treatment of the FCT on par with Nigeria’s 36 states. On Saturday, Senator Kingibe emphasized that the FCT has historically been overlooked and vowed to leverage her position as the highest representative of the people to ensure the capital territory receives its rightful share of resources and opportunities.
Senator Kingibe, who recently launched another round of palliative measures through direct cash transfers to vulnerable constituents, acknowledged that she had previously kept her empowerment initiatives under wraps. However, she now sees the value in making these efforts public to encourage others to similarly empower their constituents.
“Over the past year, we have quietly impacted numerous communities, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” she remarked, highlighting her empowerment activities. She recently distributed sewing machines and cash to over a thousand constituents to help them start businesses, which has garnered positive responses from the recipients.
As the FCT’s sole senator, Kingibe’s primary objective is to ensure the territory receives its due share of resources and opportunities. She pointed out that the FCT has often been marginalized in the allocation of quotas for employment, education, and empowerment programs, despite receiving inadequate funding. Senator Kingibe reaffirmed her dedication to championing policies that guarantee the FCT’s inclusion and fair treatment, ensuring that its residents have equal access to opportunities and benefits. Her focus is on attracting as much support as possible to empower individuals, communities, and the territory, fostering self-sufficiency.
Kingibe pledged to continue working diligently to bring about positive change and ensure the FCT receives the attention and resources it deserves. “I believe that by doing so, we can build a strong and inclusive future for all residents of the FCT, making Abuja the ideal place for everyone,” she concluded.
