Six suspects have been apprehended in connection with the murder of South African rapper AKA.

Six suspects have been apprehended in connection with the murders of South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, known as AKA, and his close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motshoane. The incident occurred outside a restaurant in Durban a year ago.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi revealed that hitmen were hired to target AKA, although the motive remains undisclosed. Surveillance indicated that AKA was monitored from the airport, and Tibz was not the intended victim.

“We know they were paid for this,” Lt Gen Mkwananzi stated during a press briefing, adding that the suspects played various roles in the plot and are linked to other murder cases.

Evidence recovered during the arrests includes four vehicles, firearms associated with the murders, and spent cartridges. All suspects, aged below 36, are set to appear in court by Thursday.

Minister of Police Bheki Cele acknowledged the distress caused by the killings, captured on CCTV cameras, stating, “I hope South Africans will sleep better after this.” He emphasized the calculated nature of the crime.

The motive remains under investigation. AKA, known for his solo career and contributions to the rap group Entity, garnered acclaim and awards both locally and internationally throughout his musical journey.
