Terry Tha Rapman accuses Wizkid of destroying rap and now attempting to undermine Afrobeats.

Veteran Nigerian rapper Terry Tha Rapman sparks controversy with his statement about Wizkid, alleging that the Afrobeats artist has eradicated the rap genre and is now targeting Afrobeats for the same fate.

Wizkid recently criticized Afrobeats on social media, expressing that he doesn’t feel he fits into any specific genre.

Terry Tha Rapman responded on the X platform, suggesting that Wizkid’s statement about rap being dead is ironic, as he now appears to be trying to diminish Afrobeats with his recent comments.

A few days ago, Wizkid made a statement on social media rejecting Afrobeats, stating he couldn’t be confined to a single genre.

In response, Terry Tha Rapman, via the X platform, criticized Wizkid, alleging that his previous assertion that “rap is dead” and his recent comments against Afrobeats indicate a desire to undermine both genres.

Terry Tha Rapman cautioned Highlife artists to be cautious of Wizkid, suggesting that they could be his next focal point.

Terry Tha Rapman wrote:

“First rap, now Afrobeats. How many genres Wizkid wan kill? Highlife, run o!”

Following Wizkid’s outburst, Tunde Ednut, Verydarkman, others weigh in on his stance against being called an Afrobeats artist.

In a series of posts on his Instastories on Friday night, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer announced his new album titled ‘Morayo’.

The ‘Ojuelegba’ hitmaker, however, warned the public that the project is not for Afrobeats lovers— including fans of ‘Pakurumo’, his 2011 hit song.

Wizkid’s post indeed stirred reactions from other Nigerian celebrities, including Tunde Ednut, who expressed surprise at Wizkid’s stance. Tunde reiterated the significance of Afrobeats and its enduring connection to Nigerian culture.

Tunde wished Wizkid success with his upcoming album and vowed to support it by downloading it if it meets his expectations.

Ednut wrote;

“WIZKID IS AT IT AGAIN TONIGHT,Oo! It is well..,We, we love Afrobeats and Afrobeats is ours forever. We are proud of it and Afrobeats is here to stay. All the best in his forthcoming Album. If it’s good, we’ll still download it”
