‘Tinubu govt only interested in impoverishing Nigerians, milking dying economy’ – Peter Obi On Cyber security levy

Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, criticized the newly-introduced cybersecurity levy by the Tinubu government, stating that it would further worsen the already ailing Nigerian economy and burden struggling citizens.

Obi argued that the government’s priority should be to revive and grow the economy, rather than imposing additional taxes that would burden the people.

He accused the government of introducing policies that would deter investors and make the country’s economic environment less competitive.

Obi questioned the rationale behind imposing a cybersecurity levy on Nigerians, especially at a time when they are already facing severe economic distress due to factors like Naira devaluation and high inflation rates.

He emphasized that such a levy would erode the remaining capital of businesses and individuals, contrary to the government’s promise to reduce the number of taxes.

Furthermore, Obi raised concerns about the role of the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) in revenue collection, particularly in relation to the cybersecurity levy.

He concluded by calling on the government to reconsider its approach and focus on policies that would alleviate the economic hardship faced by Nigerians rather than exacerbating it.
