President Bola Tinubu has formally inaugurated Esther Walson-Jack as the new Head of Service (HoS) of the Federation. The inauguration took place on Monday, just before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Walson-Jack’s appointment, which was announced by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale on July 17, became effective on August 14. She succeeds Folasade Yemi-Esan, who retired from the civil service on August 13.
Ngelale emphasized Walson-Jack’s extensive experience, noting her appointment as a Federal Permanent Secretary in 2017 and her service in various ministries since then. Prior to her federal role, Walson-Jack served as the Solicitor-General of Bayelsa State and the Permanent Secretary of the state’s Ministry of Justice.

President Tinubu expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service, Yemi-Esan, for her dedicated service and encouraged Walson-Jack to carry out her duties with innovation, integrity, and strict adherence to the rules governing the Federation’s Civil Service. Walson-Jack holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Lagos and was called to the bar in 1987.
